Dr. Subiao Liu
Professor

Dr. Subiao Liu is a Distinguished Professor at the School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University (CSU), China. In June, 2012, he received his B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, CSU, China. In June, 2017, he completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Jing-Li Luo. After graduation, he immediately held an appointment with the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Alberta, and served as a postdoc research fellow at his Ph.D. group. One year later, he obtained an opportunity to work as a research fellow for one year and a half at the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Then, due to the necessity of projects, he returned back to his Ph.D. group as a postdoc research fellow till February 2021. Since March 2021, he joined Central South University as a professor. In addition, he has been honored with the “Chinese Oversea Outstanding Graduate Student Award” in 2017, and he also successfully joined the “Thousand Youth Talents Plan” of China. Currently, he served as as a young editorial board member in the journals of “Advanced Powder Materials”, “Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China” and "Materials Research Letters”.

Her research has been focusing on solid oxide cells, energy storage and conversion research, clean energy technology and corrosion control. Her research activities involve both fundamental studies of phenomena related to development of designed new materials, electrochemical conversions, and development research directed to providing solutions to problems of significance in power generation, natural resource conversion and transportation industries.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Dr. Gang Yang

Dr. Gang Yang received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology in 2023. Currently, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow, co-supervised by Prof. Jing-Li Luo in the College of Materials Science and Engineering, Shenzhen University and Prof. Subiao Liu in the School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University. His research mainly focuses on electrocatalytic CO2 reduction and H2O splitting.

PhD Candidates

Mulin Yu

Mulin Yu obtained his master degree in science from Central South University in 2020. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in Professor Subiao Liu’s group at the School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University since 2021. His research mainly focuses on the construction of specific metal nanostructures capable of electrochemically converting CO2 to high-value fuels or chemicals.

Sanusi Sule

Sanusi Sule obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Yobe State University in the year 2015. The quest of knowledge and research made Sanusi Sule to purse a Master of Science degree in Inorganic Chemistry from Bayero University, Kano from 2016 to 2019. His current research direction as a Ph.D. candidate in Professor Subiao Liu’s Group is on metal organic frameworks and their applications for electrochemical CO2 reduction to value-added products.

Guoqiang Lu

Guoqiang Lu received his master degree from School of Chemical and Material Engineering, Jiangnan University and joined Professor Subiao Liu’s group as a PhD candidate since September, 2024. Lin-Bo Liu

Lin-Bo Liu received his Master degree in Engineering at school of Mineral Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University in Professor Subiao Liu’s group in year 2023, and then he continued to study as a  Ph.D. candidate with the research interests in water splitting and carbon dioxide electrolysis on perovskite oxides.

Shuo Liu

Shuo Liu received his master degree in engineering from Zhengzhou University, and joined Professor Subiao Liu’s group as a PhD candidate since September, 2022. His research interest will mainly concentrate on the design of advanced perovskite oxides to drive electrochemical CO2 reduction at elevated temperatures in solid oxide electrolysis cell.

Meng-Tao Zhou

Meng-Tao Zhou received his bachelor degree in Engineering from Central South University, and then joined Professor Subiao Liu's group as a master candidate since September, 2022. His research mission is to develop highly active and stable Cu-based nanomaterials capable of efficiently driving electrochemical CO2 reduction toward hydrocarbon fuels at room temperature.

Ming Yang

Ming Yang received his bachelor degree in Engineering from Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology. Then he entered Central South University to further pursue  his master degree in 2022, and joined Professor Subiao Liu's group.  He will focuses on the study of in-situ exsolution of metal/alloy nanoparticles on perovskite oxides and their application for CO2 and/or H2O electrolysis in solid oxide electrolysis cell at elevated temperatures.
